A Mason Jar becomes a French Press for Coffee

Who doesn't love a good mason jar? They can be used for loads of DIY projects, not to mention their original purpose of preserving food. To me, this glass container is synonymous with sustainability - something that Warren and I are aggressively tackling in our own life and in the repurposed products we're curating for our shop.

Sustainable movement leaders Bryan Kappa and Rob Story, the brilliant pair behind Bucket Product Manufacturing, are introducing yet another unique use for the ubiquitous mason jar...and as a coffee addict and a mason jar enthusiast, I couldn't be more excited about it all. It's a mason jar repurposed as a French Press for coffee and being based in Portland they've dubbed the product the Portland Press. Brilliant.
According to the designers,
The Portland Press is a french press for a Mason jar, made in the state of Oregon, out of materials sourced in the USA. It’s a simple, clean, practical design made out of fundamental materials: glass, wool, steel, wood. Most importantly, the Mason jar is easy to replace if it breaks, and the rest of the Portland Press is backed with a lifetime warranty.
They go on to say...
Our favorite part about this project is telling the story behind the people who are making the parts. The Portland Press was designed by Bucket, but the components are made by a variety of people with different backgrounds. Some of the manufacturers who we're working with include Custom Stamping & Manufacturing, Spooltown, Creekside Fiber Mill, Puddleduck Farm, B&L Wood Creations, Northwest Spring Manufacturing, Oregon Screw Machine Products, and Tualatin Valley Workshop.
The project is currently looking for investment funds through Crowd Supply, and gauging from the interest they've sparked so far, it looks like this investment is going to be a winner.

Take a look at their pitch video...

Barn Sale Vintage side note: I'm currently working on a project that involves a mason jar - look for it in the Etsy shop soon!
